The "Name That Plant" Game

The small package has been opened but I am still trying to figure out what it is. Annie in Austin suggested one idea, and while the flower looks very much like it is related to a flax the rest of the plant doesn't quite fit and so here is a better picture of the whole plant. Anyone else want to play?

30 minutes later....

Ah HA...even though I should be planning an Easter dinner...I have been surfing and think I finally found the species...
Veronica chamaedrys or Germander Speedwell!

  1. Some of the photos via google show the same striking white stamens as your original photo - that looks like a winner, Tabor.

Good luck with the Easter dinner!

  2. Me again... David in NC seems to have the little veronica in his March 19th post.
Why did I never notice it before?

  3. Yes, it's speedwell. Such a dainty, tiny flower, isn't it? And a beautiful shade of blue.
I found it growing wild under the trees, over by the river last spring, and named it via the internet. The Connecticut Botanic Society has a great website for IDing wildflowers.
If I hadn't been trying to keep those daffs fresh for church, I never would've thought to put them out where it was cool. They've lasted amazingly well.
    Happy Easter to you Tabor!

Glad to hear from you once again. I really like these visits. Come sit on this log and tell me what you are thinking.
