You Give Me Fever

Feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium) is a weed, a medicinal herb and a bit of a toxin.  This plant has the reputation of reducing fevers and migraines according to herbalists.  It claims many other remedies.  But, it also has had mixed results in the medical community and can cause nasty side effects.  I plant it for its beauty.  It is hardy and can spread like a weed if I am not careful.  But my soil is mostly clay and shade, so it takes some real tenacity for any plant to take off.

And it does lend itself to photo manipulation!

  1. I used to be quite the gardener when my knees allowed me but last year was the last of my decades long home gardening career. I loved your feverfew photos and the creative interpretation in the last photo. For now I get to appreciate online flowers such as yours and also the beautiful wild ones that grow in my fields. -- barbara

  4. Lovely plant. The pretty ones, even when not necessarily good medicine for the body, are balm for the beauty loving soul.

  6. We have golden feverfew, which is a lovely accent plant with other perennials, and it makes wonderful bouquet filler.
    Love the artsy shopped photo.

  7. Yep. Tried this one a long time ago for migraines - so many of these herbs give me a headache-headache. Not a migraine, but a pain.

Similar to when I took ginseng for energy. Ugh!

  8. Oh,I forgot. That last photo makes me think of a Disney movie. I can see little characters rolling around on those beautiful flower petals.

You would have been in your element at Disney, I bet.

  9. I seem to remember picking armful of this plant when I was evacuated as a child. Maybe that explains a few things about me! I agree it has beauty.

  11. I should have left well enough alone and let you delete them. So sorry. I was posting comments while riding my exercise bike and using my Kindle to read and post. Oops. Guess I held the post key a bit long.

  12. They are so pretty! We have them in bunches around here, but I never knew what they were. I just thought they were some kind of daisy.

  17. Oh it sure does! I had no idea what feverfew actually looked like even though I've taken it for migraines.
